Ekiti State Airport- A Critical Perspective
Ekiti State Airport- A Critical Perspective
As a stakeholder in the airline industry and a native of Ekiti State, I share my concerns and insights on the airport commissioned earlier, which is still under construction.
Rushed Commissioning!
The commissioning of the airport before its completion by the Dr. Kayode Fayemi administration raises concerns about the government's haste and potential underlying motives.
Missing Link- Airline Operators.
The functionality of the airport relies on airline operators willing to fly the route.
As an industry expert, I consider factors such as route profitability, technicality, and distance.
Assessing Ekiti's Readiness
Before attracting airline operators, we must address the following:
1. Cargo export potential- Do we have made-in-Ekiti goods (agro produce or others) to export?
2. Tourism attractions- Are our sites sufficient to draw local and international clients?
3. Educational institutions: Can we leverage Afe Babalola University and others to attract air travelers?
The Way Forward
To ensure the airport's sustainability, I recommend the following:
1. Focusing on attracting airline operators.
2. Enhancing cargo section productivity.
3. Partnering with relevant stakeholders.
4. Prioritizing the airport's completion and functionality.
Conclusion.
The Ekiti State Airport can thrive if the government prioritizes its completion and functionality.
I expressed my commitment to exploring the possibility of our airline patronizing the Ekiti State route in the near future during the last diaspora meeting with Governor Oyebanji.
Let's build on the foundation laid and make it work for the benefit of our state.
