The Danger of Gradually Turning Ekiti State into a Political Industrialization Hub.
The Danger of Gradually Turning Ekiti State into a Political Industrialization Hub.
Ekiti State, a mere 28 years old, has been gradually transforming into a state consumed by politics.
Every aspect of life in Ekiti seems to revolve around political campaigns, appointments, events, and party affiliations.
The narrative has shifted from good governance, investment opportunities, tourist destinations, and socio-economic development to a singular focus on political survival and reelection.
The statistics are alarming. Despite trillions of naira in inflows from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) since its creation, Ekiti State remains plagued by poverty, poor infrastructure, hunger, unemployment, and insecurity.
The state capital, with a population of less than 1 million people, is a shadow of underdevelopment, with poor environmental aesthetics.
Ekiti State is endowed with knowledge human capital, beautiful terrain for tourism, great cultural heritage with historical relics, and good land for farming.
It also shares borders with several states, providing opportunities for trade and economic growth.
Unfortunately, the state has been unlucky to have ever been governed by entrepreneurial-minded individuals or teams since its inception.
The future looks bleak for the youth, who have lost hope in the system. Politics has become the only viable option for many, leaving them with limited opportunities for growth and development.
The state's overemphasis on politics has stifled its potential for growth and development.
It is imperative that Ekiti State redirects its focus towards sustainable development, investing in its people, and exploring opportunities for economic growth.
The way forward is an entrepreneurship knowledge economy that will convert our human and natural resources into wealth creation for the Ekiti State population.
This article is a call for sober reflection and a change in narrative.
I am not interested in Ekiti political Industrialization, but I am passionate about Ekiti State's socio-economic development.
It's time for a new approach that prioritizes entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic growth.
