 The Harsh Reality of "May Nigeria Never Happen to You"

The acronym popular among young Nigerians, "May Nigeria Never Happen to You," is more than just a phrase – it's a reflection of the country's leadership failure and bad governance, which permeate Nigeria's socio-economic challenges.


A Tragic Reminder.


The recent untimely death of Sommiee, an AriseTV staff member, serves as a poignant reminder of the phrase's significance. 


She had tweeted "May Nigeria never happen to me" just before her tragic demise, which occurred during an armed robbery invasion in the Katampe area of Abuja.


 The circumstances surrounding her death are alarming, particularly given the city's heavy security presence as the nation's capital.


Systemic Failures.


Reports suggest that the police response was inadequate, and a hospital allegedly refused to provide emergency care. 


This tragedy highlights the need for introspection and accountability. In a sane nation, CCTV cameras would have identified the perpetrators, and police officers would have been hot on their trail.

May Sommiee's memory be a blessing to us all. Her tragic passing is a stark reminder of the urgent need for reform. May her legacy inspire change.


A Call to Action.


It's time for us to acknowledge that we've failed as a nation since 1960. 


We need to come together and confront the harsh realities of our collective failure. Only then can we begin to work towards creating a safer, more responsive, and more responsible society for all Nigerians.


Emergency Response Campaign.


I urge AriseTV to spearhead a campaign focused on Emergency Response in Nigerian hospitals. It's imperative that medical professionals prioritize treating emergency patients without delay, regardless of their identity or financial status. 


Let's work towards a Nigeria where emergency care is truly emergency care, without excuses or hesitation.
